In our lab, we are interested in how young children think about the world, from plants and animals, to smartphones, to social categories like gender. See below for more info about the projects we are currently running!
In this project, we are interested in how children think and learn about nature and the environment. Our goal is to understand how children observe and understand the world around them, and how they use everyday events and experiences to form their ideas about the world. We are currently conducting research for this project in partnership with the Scott Arboretum and the Swarthmore Public Library.

This study for parents and children ages 3-6 years old examines how parents and kids interact while doing different kinds of activities. This study is being run in our lab on the Swarthmore College campus. Participating families schedule an appointment to come into the lab to do some different fun activities together and to answer some questions on a computer. Kids get to choose a prize to take home at the end!

This project looks at how kids and families think and make decisions about the media and digital technology. These studies are currently entirely online, so families can participate from home whenever it works best for them! Participating takes about 15 minutes, and we record the entire study session using the family’s webcam so that we can make sure the child is present and paying attention. Participation requires just an internet connection, a laptop or desktop computer with a webcam, and a Chrome or Firefox browser.
